Leaving Los Angeles

Roadtrip: LA to Palm Springs

Palm Springs Wind Farm

Lights up. The four of us stand outside of Stephe's rented convertible and we stare at the trunk, relieved that all of our bags fit snugly next to each other. Rach and I climb into the back and the guys settle into the front seats, ready for the two hour drive to Palm Springs. We wave adios to Los Angeles, leaving the smog for the suckers. We're headed to the desert, and nothing will stop us.

More DIRT!

Great news! DIRT was mentioned in the May edition of magazine on p.146 – just a tiny mention but great exposure. Here’s the excerpt:

CLEAN DREAMS
Thoreau’s dirty secret? He took his laundry home to Mother. And he’s not the only cleanliness fanatic to appear in DIRT: The Quirks, Habits, and Passions of Keeping House (Seal), an anthology edited by Mindy Lewis, who had an adversarial relationship with her vacuum. “For me,” confesses Katy Brennan, “the California Closets Web site is online porn.” Ann Hood, by contrast, has a fondness for dust bunnies. A tip from Alice Walker to her daughter, Rebecca: In hard times your house “must suggest a sparkling future. Room must be made for your ship to come in.”

The publisher has created a beautiful website for DIRT

Reasons to Live in Los Angeles #6

Real Food Daily is # delicisix!

I can't believe I haven't eaten at RFD since moving here, and now I have found a new place to satisfy my food addictions. It's also a great place for lunch time people watching: LA's hippies, beautiful people,  and business peeps seem to mingle happily over delicate soba noodles and Raspberry Brews.

I had the monthly special, Mexico City Tacos, that were stuffed with tempeh, avocado, red beans, and jicama, and were so filling and tasty I wasn't even hungry at dinner time.

Check them out!

LA Celebrity Beat: THREE in TWO HOURS!

Our friends from Brooklyn, Stephe and Rachel, arrived in Los Angeles today for vacation. We went to lunch with them at Real Food Daily on La Cienega, (which was amazing and will be in another post), but on our drive home, we saw two celebrities within ten minutes of each other.

First up, Stephe spotted bearded Academy Award Winner, Adrian Brody.

Then, while waiting at a redlight, Josh and I saw Patton Oswalt, one of our all time favorite comedians.   This was my first (unpaid) sighting of him since we have moved to LA.

Lastly, I saw tabloid star Phoebe Price being interviewed by the paparazzi outside of Anastasia Eyebrows on Bedford in Beverly Hills. She's kind of a media whore, and I'm not sure why she is famous. We've tried to find out more about her, but there's nothing there. She's just famous for trying to be famous.

And by the way, when our friends Scott and Abby were also visiting from Brooklyn, we had brunch with them at Hugo's and sat across from comedian Sarah Silverman. We tried not to make eye contact and bother her, but we were all kind of starstruck.
