Keeping Austin Weird.

Transplanter Out of Town (AKA TOOT): Austin, May 2009!

I went to Austin about two weeks ago to catch up with my buddies. Paul and Tress, both theater teachers, had students competing in the State Level of the UIL theater contests. Sharon and Manuel came to cheer them on and celebrate their anniversary, I finally met Russell, and I got to see Tress's growing bambino tummy. It was a really chilled out, fun weekend, with the typical Texas weather: rainstorms, heat waves, and one really springy day. Besides hitting my favorite Alamo Draft House Movie Theater and seeing the hilarious Pancake Theater Co. tear apart one of my guilty pleasure movies, Rocky 4, I was also introduced to Home Slice Pizza, Manuel and Sharon's favorite place. It's owned by their friends Jen and Jon, and was totally packed when we went for brunch on the very rainy Saturday. Seriously, this may be the best pizza outside of NYC, located conveniently on South Congress. We also at the usual Kirby Lane Diner on Saturday night (an old stomping ground) and Currac's Mexican off of Oldtorp on Sunday for a yummy brunch. I recommend the eggs on black beans with plantains if you are in the neighborhood. I also recommend seeing all of my friends, but they are a busy group, so good luck!
